Everyone asks “how do I make money fast?” The honest answer: there’s a sequence. Early-game you grind a few hundred gold from crops; mid-game you build processing (kegs, jars, ponds); late-game you run an Ancient Fruit wine empire. This guide ranks the strategies by return-on-effort and shows the ramp.
Ranked strategies (by effort → payoff)
| Strategy | Effort | Payoff | When it shines |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ancient Fruit wine | High setup | ★★★★★ | Late (Greenhouse) |
| Animals (mayo/cheese) | Medium | ★★★★ | Mid |
| Fish Ponds (roe/caviar) | Low–Med | ★★★★ | Mid–late |
| Crop selling (raw) | Low | ★★★ | Early–mid |
| Mining (ores/gems) | Medium | ★★★ | Early–mid |
| Forage/resin/truffle | Low | ★★ | Always (passive) |
| Fishing mini-game | High | ★★ | Early side |
The headline: processing beats selling raw, and passive beats active. A keg turns a 550g fruit into 1,650g wine while you sleep. A Fish Pond pays daily without you touching the rod.
Year 1 spring: the detailed budget
| Step | Action | Gold impact |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1–5 | Parsnips + forage | ~300–500g |
| ~Day 8 | Backpack upgrade (2,000g) | frees inventory |
| Spring 13 | Strawberries (buy ~50–100 seeds) | setup |
| Spring 13–28 | Harvest + replant | ~5,000–10,000g |
| Post-harvest | Save for Summer seeds / coop | — |
Before that, sell forage, sap/resin from trees, and a few Parsnips. Don’t blow gold on decorations.
The seasonal ramp
Spring (year 1): Strawberries from the Egg Festival (Spring 13) are your first real money crop — they regrow every 4 days. Before that, sell forage/resin and a few Parsnips. Don’t blow gold on decorations.
Summer: Blueberries (regrow 4d, cheap seed) and Cranberries aren’t summer, but Blueberry is. Starfruit (400g seed at Sandy’s Oasis — a limited 200g stock also appears at the Night Market, 750g sell, 2,250g wine) is the single-season king if you can afford the seeds from Sandy. Hops → Pale Ale is a strong summer play too.
Fall: Cranberries (regrow 5d) and Pumpkin (960g wine, 13-day grow) dominate. Pumpkin wine (960g, or 3× its 320g base) is the best non-ancient fruit return.
Year 2+: Get a Greenhouse, fill it with Ancient Fruit, build 100+ kegs, and the Wine Empire prints ~177g/day per plant forever. That’s the endgame.
Animal products value
| Product | Base sell | With Artisan | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Egg | 50g | Mayo 190g | Chickens, easy |
| Large Egg | 90g | Mayo 285g | Chance from chickens |
| Milk | 125g | Cheese 300g | Cows |
| Large Milk | 190g | Cheese 345g | Cows |
| Truffle | 625g | Truffle Oil 1,065g | Pigs, foraged |
Animals are mid-game gold: lower effort than crops once set up, and they don’t need watering or weather luck.
The throughput reality
You’ll hit a wall:
200 strawberries ripen and you have 12 kegs.
This is where the keg vs jar guide matters — jars are faster (2–3 days vs 7) so you process the bulk with jars and reserve kegs for your top-value crops. Scale your number of machines with your harvest, not the other way around.
Greenhouse build plan
The Greenhouse (from Community Center) gives 116 tillable tiles that ignore seasons. The typical endgame: 116 Ancient Fruit plants, ~120 kegs, and a Seed Maker to keep propagating. That setup generates tens of thousands of gold per day with almost no active work.
Why not just fish or mine?
Fishing and mining are active — you trade your time for gold. Crops and ponds are passive — you set them up and they pay while you do other things. Early game, active income (selling a few hundred gold of ore or fish) bridges the gap until your farm scales. But if you’re choosing where to invest time, build processing.
Applicable conditions and exceptions
- All per-day and per-item numbers assume Normal quality, Artisan profession for processed goods (the +40% that makes wine worth it).
- The ramp assumes you complete the Community Center for the Greenhouse and Seed Maker — without them, Ancient Fruit’s three-season advantage can’t realize.
- Meadowlands Farm (1.6) starts with chickens, so your early income skews to mayo instead of crops. The ranking holds; your starting point differs.
- Values are 1.6.x; the 1.7 patch may adjust sell prices, and our data files are version-marked and re-checked before major updates.
Propagating Ancient Fruit, step by step
The Ancient Fruit engine starts from a single seed, which you get from the Traveling Cart (rare), a treasure, or (most reliably) a Seed Maker once you have one fruit. The loop: plant, harvest, drop a fruit into the Seed Maker, repeat. Each Seed Maker turns one fruit into 1-3 seeds, so your stock doubles every cycle until your Greenhouse is full. Because the fruit is free after the first one, the per-day math ignores seed cost entirely — that is the whole trick. Pair it with 100+ kegs and you have an endgame income that runs itself. The crop profit strategy shows the exact per-day number.
A sample daily loop (mid-game)
Once you have a handful of kegs and a coop, a typical profitable day looks like: water crops, collect pond/animal outputs, load kegs/jars, clear finished goods, and spend the rest of the day in the mines or Skull Cavern for ore and the occasional Prismatic Shard. The point is not any single action — it is that almost everything is passive or semi-passive, so your work is logistics, not grinding. That is the difference between a farm that feels like a job and one that feels like a snowball.
Endgame checklist
- Finish the Community Center for the Greenhouse and Seed Maker.
- Fill the Greenhouse with Ancient Fruit; build 100+ kegs.
- Add a few Sturgeon ponds jared for Caviar.
- Keep a coop or two for mayo as low-effort filler.
- Take Artisan, and use Deluxe Fertilizer on the Greenhouse.
- Reinvest profits into more kegs and more ponds; the snowball compounds.
One last tip on patience
The first year is slow and the second year is when the snowball clearly wins. Do not judge the whole strategy by a single spring — the systems compound across seasons, and the Greenhouse-plus-kegs core is what turns a tidy farm into a money engine. Keep reinvesting, keep building machines, and the numbers take care of themselves.

Revenue figures are multi-source verified:
